Hey folks!
Welcome to
Vin[Ted]!
(aka Ted's blog)
This is the place where Ted will catch you up on his latest comings, goings, musings, and general winemaking amusements. They may come often, or rarely at all [but most likely because Dana asks him], so bear with him. The whole blog thing is new to a guy who is usually a man of few words. Who knows?! You may even get some nuggets and pearls of wisdom that have absolutely nothing to do with wine and everything to do with something else brewing in the mysterious mind of Ted Seghesio.
Homeward Bound Fundraiser
Recently, Dana and I had the opportunity to support a nonprofit organization that was truly as feel-good as it gets. We were able to support the great organization, Homeward Bound of Marin, at an event honoring those who have contirbuted time and efforts to help make the organization what it has become today. Since their first homeless shelter was established in 1974, they have been providing shelter, housing, training, and support to homeless adults, families, and veterans. As a family, we try our best to offer help to those in need, including teaching our children the importance of giving back whenever and wherever we can. This event was especially poignant for Dana, since her stepdad is a Veteran who has worked tirelessly alongside her mom for over 25 years to help veterans deal with the aftermath of physical and emotional damage caused during their time in the Vietnam War.
Not only was the event full of heart, but the evening fundraiser featured a full meal cooked by local chefs, complete with an overhead camera, so all the patrons in the packed Key Room could see the action. The kitchen staff was manned by Homeward Bound's enthusiatic culinary trainees and graduates. Sharing a table with John Ash, the godfather of Sonoma County cuisine, and the esteemed John Finger - Founder and CEO of Hog Island Oyster Company, who presented a master class on oysters, made the evening even more memorable. Seeing how many individuals had transformed themselves to see a clear path to stability and a new future was truly gratifying.
